Burlington, MA (April 11th, 2006) - DAMICON, an information technology services company, has revised its "List of Open Software" found on the company's website. The list represents one of the most comprehensive reference sources for open-source software. Visitors find open-source software packages in a variety of categories along with corresponding examples of commercial applications.
The "List of Open Software" is divided into over 50 categories from "AntiVirus Software" to "Word Processors". The open-source list has grown long enough to require a linked table of contents for easier navigation.
Content management software has become the fastest growing portion of the list. There is strong interest in software to manage electronic information among businesses, universities and non-profit organizations of all sizes. This portion of the list has been divided into sections such as web-based content and document management to better differentiate software capabilities.
Vin D'Amico, President of DAMICON, had this to say, "Open-source software has become a major driving force in the software business. Many of these packages are commercial grade at a fraction of the cost. The list we've compiled is quite an eye opener for people unfamiliar with open source."
The company maintains the list on an ongoing basis. The focus is on business software that has attained a level of maturity and stability. Vin comments, "This is not just a catch-all list of what's out there. We research open-source software packages and only add them to the list if they are viable choices for business use."
DAMICON's List of Open Software can be found at http://www.damicon.com/resources/opensoftware.html.
